Mehmet Selçuk (b. 1967) is a distinguished Turkish cartoonist, painter, and senior cultural administrator. Currently serving as the Head of the Culture and Social Affairs Department at Denizli Metropolitan Municipality, he orchestrates the city’s cultural landscape. Combining his roots in the legendary "Gırgır" humor tradition with modern administrative strategy, Selçuk acts as a "Cultural Architect," bridging the gap between artistic creation and public policy.

ADMINISTRATIVE LEADERSHIP & CURRENT ROLE

In his capacity as the Head of Culture, Selçuk leads several high-impact national and international projects:

International Cartoon Contests: General coordinator for one of Turkey’s most prestigious cartoon competitions, attracting entries from over 50 countries annually.

Denizli Book Fair: Managing the strategic planning and execution of one of the Aegean region’s largest literary events, connecting hundreds of authors with millions of readers.

International Glass Biennial & Theater Festivals: Overseeing the administrative and artistic coordination of long-standing festivals, elevating Denizli’s brand on the global cultural map.

Curatorial Vision: Implementing a "practitioner-artist" approach to municipal services, ensuring high aesthetic standards in public branding, urban art projects, and festival content.

ARTISTIC CAREER & MILESTONES

The Gırgır Era (1983): His professional journey began in 1983 with his first publication in GIRGIR, the legendary magazine that defined Turkish humor.

Academic Foundation: Graduated from Gazi University, Faculty of Education, Department of Fine Arts (Graphics major) in 1988. He was trained in the prestigious studios of Mürşide İçmeli and Behiye Eyikan.

Şiir Boutique Hotel (2011): A landmark project where he designed the entire corporate identity and created 333 original paintings, transforming the hotel into a "Living Museum" concept.

Media & Publications: His works have been featured in premier outlets such as Cumhuriyet, Milliyet Sanat, Leman, and Limon. He produced and hosted the long-running culture-arts program "Sarımsıcak" on Deha TV and Pamukkale Art TV.

EDUCATIONAL IMPACT

A veteran educator with decades of experience at Denizli Anatolian High School and TEV Anatolian High School. He served as a "Graphic Designer" for the Ministry of National Education (MEB) textbook committee for 1.5 years, shaping the visual language of national curricula. He also founded the student-led culture magazine "12:45."

PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS

Leadership: Former President of the Denizli Art Lovers Association (1999–2000).

Representation: Denizli Representative for the Association of Cartoonists and Provincial Representative for the Turkish Billiards Federation.

Community: Active member of DEFSAD (Photography Art Association) and PAHOY (Folk Dance Society).
